John Dougan Nealon was born in 1992 in Glasgow, Scotland, where he grew up.

He has since lived and worked globally. This has included stints across in the US and Australia, with extended periods in China and India. He has been predominantly London based since 2011.

In 2016, John graduated from the University of the Arts London, having attended their London College of Communication to read Photography. Before this he attended Edinburgh Napier and Virginia Commonwealth Universities. More recently, he graduated with an MA in Curating Contemporary Art from the Royal College of Art in London.

John’s practice is situated at the intersection between contemporary art and curatorial praxis. With this, he moves between creating cross-discipline work as a solo artist and organising collaborations or curatorial programmes.

Collaboration and network creation are central to John’s work, and in January 2023 he begun The Network Project. This is a career-project that aims to give collection to the foreseen series of collaborations that will define much of what he produces moving forward. In 2025, he will embark on a trip across Eurasia to further this project. To sustain this, John will lean on his wider skillset by producing social media content. This will be conducted via an adjacent project, Jaunt.

John’s previous work has been varied, and has included exhibiting solo work and curating internationally. He has also worked in a formal capacity for well-established art organisations. In 2020, during the pandemic, John set up The Kube Gallery. This was an innovative online platform that hosted contemporary programmes, with a focus on photography and mixed media. During this period, he curated and facilitated dozens of digital exhibitions, talks and media moments with a host of well established and emerging artists.
