Hi, my name is John and I am currently travelling across the world by hitchhiking, to raise money for the UK mental health service and charity, Shout.
I set up the social media and online channel @johnthejaunt to promote my fundraising, the mental health cause and so that others can follow my journey.
FOLLOW MY CURRENT MISSION TO THE ARCTIC

Hello, my name is John and I am an artist and curator from Glasgow, who normally lives in London. After becoming worn out by the rat race, at the beginning of 2025 I made the decision to leave my corporate job and dive into a life on the road.
Through sharing my journey around the world, I aim to offer an honest glimpse into both the highs and lows of this lifestyle. At the heart of my travels is a mission to raise awareness and funds for Shout, one of the UK’s leading mental health charities.
Mental wellbeing is a cause deeply personal to me. In recent years, I’ve experienced firsthand how overwhelming the demands of modern life can be. That’s why I’m passionate about supporting organisations like Shout, whose work provides vital resources and support to those in need.
Route 1 —- Hitchhike Across the World
Start: Aberdeen, Scotland
Finish: Almaty, Kazakhstan
Distance Covered: 20,000km
When: March - October, 2025
Blurb:
This was my first hitchhiking adventure, and it took me over 20,000kms to Almaty in Kazakhstan. My initial intention was to travel on to Hong Kong. However, I was unable to obtain a tourist visa for China, and with limited route alternatives due to geo-politics, I was forced to return to the UK to see-through the visa application. The plan at the moment is to pick up where I left off to complete this journey in the spring of 2026.
Route 2 — Winter Hitchhike to the Arctic
Start: Glasgow, Scotland
Finish: Nordkapp , Kazakhstan
Distance Covered: 3,350km (so far)
When: October - November, 2025
Blurb:
In October 2025, I decided to continue my charity hitchhiking campaign by embarking on my most gruelling adventure yet. A winter hitchhike to the Arctic. I am currently still completing this, and so far have made it to around 1,500kms from Nordkapp — the very top of Europe. Not even in the Arctic region yet, I am already battling blizzards, frozen temperatures and increasingly short days.
